Herbert Simpson was born in Casino, New South Wales in 1879, he studied painting at Brisbane Technical College under Godfrey Rivers from 1911-12 at Westminster School in London in 1912 and 1915. A watercolourist, he became a prolific painter of topographical scenes of Southern Queensland.
