Born in Katoomba New South Wales in 1920, Lorna Nimmo studied at the East Sydney Technical College where she later taught. She was awarded a New South Wales travelling scholarship for landscape painting and studied at the Slade School of Art and the Courauld institute in London. and won the Wynne Prize in 1941. She exhibited with the Australian Watercolour Instiute in Sydney from the 1940s to the 1980s and the Society of Artists in the early 1940s. She lectured in contemorary art at the University of Sydney from 1955 to 1980.
