About Charles Bryant
Born in New South Wales in 1883, Bryant studied painting at Sydney under W. Lister Lister, and was an exhibitor at the Royal Art Society of New South Wales for some years. He went to London in 1908 and studied in London and at St Ives, Cornwall. He exhibited at the Royal Academy and the Paris Salon. He served as an official war artist during World War I. On his return to Australia he was employed as an official artist to the Commonwealth. He is best remembered as a historical marine painter. Bryant's works are represented in the Imperial War Museum in London as well as in several major Australian collections.
