Oil painter and installation artist Judy Millar was born in Auckland in 1957. She studied at the University of Auckland Elam School of Fine Arts where she was awarded Master of Fine Arts in1983, and undertook post gaduate studies at Academia Albertina in Turin, Italy. In 2002 she won the Wallace Arts Trust Paramount Award, and she has twice represented New Zealand's at the Venice Art Biennale in 2009 and 2011. She has held 24 solo exhibitions between 1980 and 2019 in New Zealand, Switzerland and Germany. The Swiss gallery Galerie Mark Muller gave her first international survey show in 2019. Since 2005, she has lived and worked between Auckland and Berlin.
