Born in New South Wales in 1898, Erik Langker studied at the Sydney Art School and the Royal Art Society, Sydney. He is best known as an arts administrator and was president of the trustees of the Art Gallery of NSW from 1962 to 1974. He was awarded an Order of the British Empire (OBE) in 1961 and knighted in 1968. As an artist, he was a painter of landscapes, usually of locations in the vicinity of Sydney.
