Born in Wagga Wagga, New South Wales in 1943, Makin studied at the East Sydney Technical College where he later taught. Hee moved to melbourne and lectured at the Prahran College of Advanced Education and th efolllowing year became art critic for the Melbourne 'Sun' newspaper. In the mid 19700s he travelled extensively through the Pacific Island, the USA, Europe and Britain. A painter and printmaker after his first exhibition in s Sydney in 1967, he has exhibited extensively throughout Australia and has won numerous prizes. As a printmaker he is director of Port Jackson Press.
