Born in Melbourne in 1932, Dawn Sime studied at the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology in 1948 and first exhibited in 1954. She taught part time at secondary level and in Council of Adult Education classes. A member of the Contemporary Art Society, she continued exhibiting until the 1980s, and is represented in several state and provincial collections. In 2000 her work was included in an exhibition Another Look: Six Women Artists of the 1950s. Her second husband was Eric Westbrook, the director of the national Gallery of Victoria at the time.
We have records of art auction sales by Dawn Sime from 1983 and in total 39 works by the artist have been offered for sale, of which 14 (36%) were sold. The highest price recorded for the artist is $5,280 for Village in the Sun 1954 sold by Leonard Joel in June 2012. No works have been offered for sale this year, and the last sale we have recorded for the artist was in 2022. Works by Dawn Sime are held by the National Gallery of Victoria, Heide Museum of Modern Art and a further three major public national galleries (see list below).
