A New Zealand painter, Don Binney was born in 1940 and studied at the Auckland University School of Fine Arts from 1958 to 1961. Predominantly a landscape artist, working in oil, acrylic, charcoal ink and carbon pencil. he held his first one-man exhibition in 1963. In the 1970s he lived and exhibited in London, and on his return about 1974, he was head of painting at the Auckland University School of Fine Arts for the next 24 years.
Donald Binney is one of the most prolific of the artists listed in our database, with the number of works offered for sale by auction since 1977 of 727, of which 591 (81%) were sold. The highest price recorded for the artist is $973,332 for Heron's Departure, New Spring, Te Henga sold by Art+Object in August 2022. This year 62 works have been offered for sale.
