Born in Melbourne in 1923, Rex Bramleigh studied art at the National Gallery School, Melbourne, and later at the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology. He joined the RAAF in 1941 and served in Papua/New Guinea. After the war Bramleigh opened a School of Painting and Drawing in South Melbourne. He was runner-up for the Archibald Prize in 1965 and works of his hang in the Long Room at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.
