Abstract painter and teacher, Jan Riske was born in Dordrecht Holland in 1932. After his studies at the Rotterdam Art Academy he moved to Australia in 1952 where he studied at the National Gallery School. In 1963 he retunred to Holland for two years, and he painted there and in France. He is well known for his pointillist and particle paintings which have an incredible detail and are pure oil paint on canvas and has exhibited in Australia, Holland and the United States.
The total number of works by Jan Riske offered for sale by auction since 1983 is 22, of which 19 (86%) were sold. The highest price recorded for the artist is $5,612 for Expressions in Time sold by Mossgreen Auctions in November 2011. No works have been offered for sale this year, and the last sale we have recorded for the artist was in 2022. Works by Jan Riske are held by the Art Gallery of NSW, National Gallery of Australia and a further two major public national galleries (see list below).
