About Phillip Piperides
Phillip Piperides was born in Nicosa, Cyprus in 1956 and he moved with his family to Australia in 1967, aged 11. His interest I sculpture led him in 1972 to join the private classes of Russian-born sculptor George Virine. In 1983 when he travelled to Greece and studied with Greek sculptor Vangilis Moustakas, and learnt bronze casting at the Dimitri Gavallas Foundry. In 1984 he went to work at Pietra Santa in Tuscany, Italy to give himself a more thorough sculptural knowledge. He was awarded the Churchill Fellowship (Sculpture) in 1990 in recognition of his achievements with clay and bronze, and he travelled to Canada, U.S.A. and England to further his knowledge. Between 2007 and 2019 he held about 20 solo exhibitions in Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane and he has received many public and private commissions.
The total number of works by Phillip Piperides offered for sale by auction since 2002 is 64, of which 41 (64%) were sold. The highest price recorded for the artist is $39,273 for Sensuous Nude sold by Menzies in September 2015. No works have been offered for sale this year, and the last sale we have recorded for the artist was in 2023.
