Nicholas Habbe was born in 1827 in Copenhagen. He studied at the Copenhagen Academy for seven years and then undertook further study in painting in Italy, before arriving in Melbourne in 1855. He was known as a theatre designer, portraitist and allegorical scenes, working in Melbourne between the 1860s and the 1880s. He died in Sydney in 1889. and arrived in Melbourne in 1855. Since 1970 we have recorded only one work being sold at auction by this artist, which was in 1987.
