Born in Melbourne in 1858, Emma Minnie Boyd (nee A'Beckett ) was the wife of Arthur Merric Bloomfield Boyd, and mother of William, Penleigh and Martin. She exhibited publicly between 1874 and 1932. She painted in both watercolour and oil, and a mix of interiors, figures, portraits, still life and flower studies. She exhibited between 1874 and 1932 including with the Victorian Artists Society, at the Centennial International Exhibition 1888 (Melbourne), and the Royal Academy of Arts (London) with her husband in 1891, and in a joint show with her husband at Como House in Melbourne in 1902.
The total number of works by Emma Boyd offered for sale by auction since 1969 is 282, of which 226 (80%) were sold. The highest price recorded for the artist is $170,800 for A Lassie Yet 1888 sold by Sotheby's in August 2016. No works have been offered for sale this year, and the last sale we have recorded for the artist was in 2023. Works by Emma Boyd are held by the National Gallery of Victoria, National Gallery of Australia and Art Gallery of South Australia.
