Ken Smith was born in Melbourne in 1951. He was awarded a Diploma of Art (Painting) at the Victorian College of the Arts in 1974 and a Diploma of Art at the same institution in 1981. A modern painter in oil, acrylic, gouache and pencil, he was awarded the Hugh Ramsay Portrait Prize at the Victorian College of the Arts in 1973. From 1979 to 1983 he was the Visiting Artist at the Gippsland institute of Advanced Education. He worked and studied in the UK and Europe in 1983 and 1984. More recently Smith has been a finalist in the Fleurieu Art Prize (2018), the Tattersall’s Club Landscape Art Prize (2015, 2016), the John Leslie Art Prize (2016). He was Lecturer in Drawing at Monash University's Faculty of Art Design and Architecture until 2014. Ken Smith has exhibited regularly in Melbourne since 1979.
