Born in Greenwich, London in 1881 Fred worked in Britain as a commercial artist and designer. He arrived in Perth, Western Australia in 1912 with his wife and three children, he first worked for the West Australian Newspapers Ltd. as an artist in their process-engraving department. From the early 1920s the newspaper engaged him as a photographer, a position he maintained until his retirement in the 1950s. He was a member of the state's first photography club, "The van Raalte Club", named after the then well-known printmaker. Fred was also a competent watercolourist, his works displaying the beauty and tranquillity of nature.

The total number of works by Fred Flood offered for sale by auction since 2003 is 41, of which 39 (95%) were sold. The highest price recorded for the artist is $2,300 for Rottnest Architecture sold by GFL Fine Art in May 2008. No works have been offered for sale this year, and the last sale we have recorded for the artist was in 2022.
