A New Zealand artist, Jesse Hollobon was born in 1860. He grew up in Christchurch and had an art shop locally. Although mainly a watercolourist, he also painted in oils and enjoyed woodcarving. He exhibited with the Auckland Society of Arts, South Canterbury Art Society, and the New Zealand Academy of Fine Arts for nine years. He made pew ends for several churches. A religious man, he once spent time on Quail Island looking after the lepers there.
