Born in the Netherlands in 1950, Theo Koning arrived in Australia as a young child. He studied painting and sculpture in Perth, later teaching sculpture, art and design in various tertiary institutions. He has worked using recycled materials since the 1970s. Since 1975 he has exhibited his work, mostly in Perth, but also in regional centres in Western Australia and Queensland. Koning has won several awards and his work is represented in the National Gallery of Australia, the state galleries in Perth and Adelaide and in regional and tertiary collections.

The earliest auction listing we have for Theo Koning is in 1991 and in total 36 works by the artist have been offered for sale, of which 25 (69%) were sold. The highest price recorded for the artist is $3,680 for All in the Head No.2 sold by GFL Fine Art in December 2009. This year one work has been offered for sale.
