About Sam Mahon
A New Zealand realist artist Sam Mahon was born in 1954. He studied under W. H. Sutton at the School of Fine Arts, Univerity of Canterbury. As well as a painter, he is also a printmaker and a sculptor working in bronze. He lives in the South Island of New Zealand. He has exhibited at the Canterbury Society of Arts, and his exhibition of portraits Talking Heads was shown at The Centre of Contemporary Art, in Christchurch in 2007.
The earliest auction listing we have for Sam Mahon is in 1999 and in total 27 works by the artist have been offered for sale, of which 15 (56%) were sold. The highest price recorded for the artist is $5,473 for The Paul Chase Affair [1983] sold by Dunbar Sloane in September 2019. No works have been offered for sale this year, and the last sale we have recorded for the artist was in 2022. Works by Sam Mahon are held by the Christchurch Art Gallery.
