Born in Salzburg, Austria in 1921 George Foxhill studied at Salzburg Art School in 1947-48 prior to his arrival in Australia in 1957. An figurative expressionist painter he held solo shows since 1963 in Canbera, Sydney and Melbourne and his work has been included in numerous group exhibitions, including the Transfield Prize in 1962, the Queensland Art Gallery Trustees Prize in on 3 occasions and the Blake Prize in 1979 and 1980. He was awarded several artist residencies in Salzburg in 1979 and the mid 1980s.
The total number of works by George Foxhill offered for sale by auction since 1996 is 30, of which 16 (53%) were sold. The highest price recorded for the artist is $2,760 for Wellcome sold by Leski Auctions Pty. Ltd in October 1999. No works have been offered for sale this year, and the last sale we have recorded for the artist was in 2018. Works by George Foxhill are held by the Heide Museum of Modern Art and National Portrait Gallery.
