Sculptor Michael Le Grand was born in Sydney in 1951 and after schooling furthered his lifelong love of sculpture enrolled in a by enrolling in Diploma of Art at the Victoria College of Arts in 1972. He was awarded the Visual Arts Board Travel Grant by the Australia Council in 1975 and visited London where he attended the St Martin’s School of Art, London, studying for the Certificate of Advanced Studies from 1976 to 1977. On returning to Australia he was awarded an Australian National University Creative Arts Fellowship and later taught at the University from 1980 until he retired in 2007 as Head of Sculpture tp pursue his practice in sculpture full time.. He is currently Emeritus Fellow of the University. Working with painted steel his first solo exhibition was in Canberra in 1980, and since then he has exhibited in Sydney as well as participating in numerous group shows. He has exhibited at the Sculpture by the Sea, Bondi since 1997 and was the winner of first major award in that year. Other shows include the Mildura Sculpture Triennale, the Australian Sculpture Triennale and the McClelland Sculpture Survey and Award.
