Daniel Crooks was born in 1973 in Hastings, New Zealand. He was awarded a Bachelor of Graphic Design from the Auckland Institute of Technology in 1994 and a Post Graduate Diploma of Animation, Victorian College of the Arts School of Film and TV, Melbourne. Working in digital video, photography and installation, he founded Dimensional Laboratories, freelance media studio in 1996. He lectured at Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology (RMIT) in 2001 and 2002. He was the Motions Graphics Designer at the Australian Centre for the Moving Image (ACMI), Melbourne in 2004. His first solo exhibition was in Sydney in 1998 and since then has held solo exhibitions in Melbourne, Sydney and Amsterdam and participated in numerous group exhibitions, screenings and projections in Australia and internationally.

We have records of art auction sales by Daniel Crooks from 2014 and in total 14 works by the artist have been offered for sale, of which 10 (71%) were sold. The highest price recorded for the artist is $6,150 for Imaginary Object #14 sold by Bonhams in May 2022.
