Born in London, Charles Conder arrived in Sydney in 1884. From 1887 attended night classes at the Royal Art Society and sketched with Julian Ashton and Minns around Sydney. He joined Streeton and Roberts at Heidelberg and exhibited at the first Impressionist Exhibition in 1889. In 1890 he went to Paris and later to London where he enjoyed great success.
