About Fearnleigh Montague
A late colonial landscape 19th century painter of land and streetscapes, Fearnleigh Montague travelled around Australia, New Zealand and the United States of America working c1866-89. He painted in the regions of Sydney, Melbourne, Launceston area and in New Zealand in the 1870s and 1880s. He exhibited at the New South Wales Academy of Art in 1875 and at the Victorian Academy of Art in 1878.
We have records of art auction sales by Fearnleigh Montague from 1971 and in total 21 works by the artist have been offered for sale, of which 14 (67%) were sold. The highest price recorded for the artist is $3,450 for Cora Luin Bridge Over the North Esk River Seven Miles from Launceston sold by Christies in August 1996.
