Born in Melbourne in 1937, Dale Hickey studied at Swinburne Technical College, Melbourne, graduating in 1957 and began exhibiting his work in solo shows from 1964. He is a contemporary painter in various media, and has also taught art at tertiary level. In 1968 he was included in the National Gallery of Victoria exhibition of Australian minimalism.
