Born in Victoria in 1892, Reginald Sturgess studied at the National Gallery School in Melbourne and held his first exhibition in in 1922. He was inspired partly by the English watercolourists and is best known for his delicate misty landscapes and seascapes. He had a further very successful exhibition in Adelaide in 1927 but suffered from ill-health and was unable to work after his eyesight failed in 1930. He died in 1932.
