Born in England in 1873, Violet Whiteman studied art at Herkomer School in Bushey and anatomy at the London Veterinary College. She was an accomplished animal painter prior to her arrival in New Zealand in 1926. On her arrival she became well known as a landscape artist and painter of horses, exhibited with the Wanganui Arts Society, and accepted commissions to paint animals.
The total number of works by Violet Whiteman offered for sale by auction since 1997 is 12, of which 11 (92%) were sold. The highest price recorded for the artist is $2,331 for Mare and Foal, Wanganui sold by International Art Centre in July 1998. No works have been offered for sale this year, and the last sale we have recorded for the artist was in 2022.
