Ben Hall was born in Dubbo, New South Wales in 1935. Painting was his passion and while still at school he received tuition from Roland Wakelin. At university he briefly studied dentistry, then arts-law and finally selected architecture, from which he graduated in 1959. He toured Europe from 1961 to 1963 and enrolled in a sculpture course at the Central School of Art, London. On his return to Australia he taught Design at the Faculty of Architecture, Sydney University. After another visit to London he took up lute making which extended to include all types of baroque instruments, Played Throughout the World, Included in the Powerhouse Museum Collection and in Collections of Most Australian Conservatoriums. All the while he continued painting holding regular solo and group exhibitions, mostly in Sydney. He died in Sydney in 2017.
