Born in Hobart in 1912, Amie Kingston studied in Hobart, Sydney and London. A painter, teacher and designer for theatre, she made ballet costumes for the Sadlers Wells Ballet Company before returning to Sydney in 1943. She continued to exhibit her paintings, and to work in theatrical design. In the late 1940s Kingston taught at the Double Bay Design School, retiring from teaching in 1976.
