Born in Lancashire, England in 1937, Leach-Jones arrived in Australia in 1960. An abstract painter and printmaker he was an important figure in the 'New Abstraction' movement in Australian art. He held his first major solo exhibition in 1964. As well as being represented in most major Australian public collections his work is also included at the Museum of Modern Art and Solomon R Guggenheim Museum in New York; the Victoria and Albert Museum and British Museum in London.

Alun Leach-Jones is one of the most prolific of the artists listed in our database, with the number of works offered for sale by auction since 1973 of 608, of which 407 (67%) were sold. The highest price recorded for the artist is $34,364 for Noumenon XXXVI - Imperial sold by Deutscher and Hackett in August 2022. This year 15 works have been offered for sale.
