Born in Somerset, England in 1854 Edward Bevan studied and painted in Sydney with Julian Ashton and Tom Roberts, exhibiting at the Royal Art Society from 1883. He became a surveyor in Queensland in 1885 and was editor of the Illustrated Australian News.
