Born in Taranaki, New Zealand in 1906, Violet Watson studied privately with Adele Younghusband and Ida Carey. She was a painter in oils of landscapes and flowers, and a teacher for 30 years. Past member of the Waikato Society of Art and a major exhibitor in the 1960s and 1970s. In 1974 she was the first woman to win the Kelliher Art Award and she won it again in 1977.
