Born in Germany in 1918, Peter Kaiser studied at the Berlin Academy before he came to Australia in 1940. After a time in Melbourne he moved to Sydney where he taught illustration and applied art at the East Sydney Technical College. He returned to Europe in the 1950s, but kept contact with Australia through exhibitions in both Sydney and Melbourne.
