Born in Adelaide in 1946, Geoffrey Proud had no formal art training before establishing his career painter, sculptor and print-maker. He first exhibited at Watters Gallery in Sydney in 1965; he has since held about 40 solo exhibitions in Sydney and Melbourne. Amongst the prizes he has won are the Archibald Prize in 1990 and the Sulman Prize in 1976.
