Born in Tasmania in 1884, Sydney Higgs is an amateur landscape artist who studied art in Launceston with his uncle Joshua Higgs, and patent law in Melbourne. He moved to Wellington, New Zealand in 1904 where he began further studies in patent law, engineering and art. After serving in World War I he exhibited his work, mainly watercolours, with the New Zealand Academy of Fine Arts.

We have records of art auction sales by Sydney Higgs from 1993 and in total 80 works by the artist have been offered for sale, of which 62 (78%) were sold. No works have been offered for sale this year, and the last sale we have recorded for the artist was in 2022.
