Born in 1921 in Melbourne, Keith Nichol studied at the National Gallery of Victoria School and later in Europe and the UK. He first met Arthur Boyd at the Murrumbeena state school, later joining him on painting trips. Nichol exhibited with the Social Realist Group in Melbourne from 1953 to 1967, and also exhibited in Queensland and South Australia.
