Born in Melbourne in 1912, Clifford Bayliss studied in Melbourne and London. During World War II he was the leader of a fire unit in London; after the war he became a production assistant with the Royal Covent Garden Opera House. In 1965 Bayliss returned to Australia and taught at the Croydon Art School.
