Born in Finland in 1953, Ari Purhonen arrived in Australia in 1966. He studied architecture extensively in Sydney. A sculptor, his constructions are often made of steel, glass and aluminium. Purhonen has exhibited his work in solo shows in Sydney and in Auckland since 1980. He lectures in sculpture at tertiary level. Purhonen's work is represented in several state galleries and the Museum of Contemporary Art in Brisbane.
