Born in New Zealand in 1869, Hodgkins studied under W.M. Hodgkins and G.P. Nerli. She exhibited in New Zealand from 1890 until 1901 when she travelled to England and Europe. She visited Australia and New Zealand several timesand exhibited in Melbourne 1912 and Sydney 1913. The exhibitions were received by critics as brilliant and daring examples in the style of the French impressionistic art. However she spent most of her life in Europe. She was a frequent exhibitor at the Royal Academy and the Paris Salon.
