Jacqueline Mitelman (nee MacGreggor) was born in Scotland in 1948. After migrating to Australia she studied for a Diploma of Art and Design at Prahran College of Advanced Education 1973-76. She practices as a freelance photographer specialising in portraiture for magazines and newspapers and has sought out Australia's significant writers, artists and personalities for her subjects. The National Portrait Gallery holds twenty of her photographs. She has exhibited in solo shows since 1975 in Melbourne and provincial centres. In 2004 she was awarded the Josephine Ulrick National Photography Prize, and in 2011 National Portrait Gallery's National Photographic Portrait Prize.
We have records of art auction sales by Jaqueline Mitelman from 1999 and in total 16 works by the artist have been offered for sale, of which 11 (69%) were sold. The highest price recorded for the artist is $3,760 for Folio of Eleven Australian Artists and Writers sold by Deutscher~Menzies in May 2001. No works have been offered for sale this year, and the last sale we have recorded for the artist was in 2023. Works by Jaqueline Mitelman are held by the National Portrait Gallery, National Gallery of Victoria and Heide Museum of Modern Art.
