Born in Scotland in 1867, Charles Hay-Campbell studied extensively in London, and began teaching art before emigrating to New Zealand in 1915. Hay-Campbell taught art in Wanganui, and exhibited his work in all major New Zealand cities. He died in 1936, and his work is represented in the Sarjeant Gallery, Wanganui.
