Born in Hobart in 1846, Frederick Bruford worked as a public servant, becoming Deputy Commissioner of Taxation from 1864 to 1894. A member of the Victorian Academy of Arts and Victorian Artists Society, he was an amateur artist, whose work is also of historical interest. Bruford died in Victoria in 1920. His work is represented in the Warrnambool Art Gallery.

Since 1970 we have recorded only one work being sold at auction by this artist, which was in 1992.
