Catherine Jenna (CJ) Hendry Australia, 1988-.

CJ Hendry, born in 1988, is a contemporary Australian artist known for her self-developed scribbling technique, creating hyper-realistic and large-scale renderings of luxury objects. Hendry was raised in Brisbane, Australia, after being born in South Africa. She initially pursued architecture at Queensland University of Technology and finance at the University of Queensland, but dropped out in 2013 to pursue an art career. Hendry first began drawing as a hobby, and has no formal art training, despite creating pieces that can take up to 200 hours to complete. Her works are primarily hyper-realistic ink drawings of luxury objects achieved through layers of "scribbles" on paper, guided by photographs and a ruler. Hendry attributes her rise to fame to social media, particularly Instagram, where her first sale in 2014, a drawing of RM Williams boots, sold for $10,000. Her works have since been collected by various prominent figures, including Kanye West, who purchased a piece featuring his portrait alongside Vera Wang, and an executive from Australia's Macquarie Bank, who paid $50,000 for a drawing of a rumpled Gucci shopping bag. In 2016, Hendry expanded her practice by collaborating with fashion house Christian Louboutin, which resulted in her first exhibition working with color and wax pencil. Held at the Anita Chan Lia-ling Gallery at the Fringe Club in Hong Kong as part of the 2017 Art Basel, Hendry's exhibition marked a departure from her signature black-and-white drawings, requiring the use of multiple colors to create one.
