Born in Melbourne, Victoria in 1886, Lancaster studied Drawing at the National Gallery School, Melbourne. He is known both as a painter in oils and as an art administrator. His work was included in the Empire Exhibition held in Scotland in 1938. He later went to live in Queensland, and was for some time a member of the Queensland Art Society and for five years its President. He was also a Trustee of the Art Gallery of Queensland until 1959. Charles Lancaster died in 1960.
