The daughter of artist Edna Garran-Brown, Joanne Thew was born in Sydney in 1952. She studied at Sydney's National Art School and became a traditional painter with abstract qualities. A portraitist, a figurative and landscape painter, she is interested in Australiana subjects. She exhibits with the Royal Art Society of New South Wales and has won several art prizes.
