Born in Sydney in 1915, Roderick Shaw studied at East Sydney Technical College and worked as a commercial artist prior to World War 11, when he became a camouflage artist. A member of the Contemporary Art Society from 1940 to 1948, he won first prize in the 1945 "Australia at War" exhibition.
We have records of art auction sales by Roderick Shaw from 1975 and in total 42 works by the artist have been offered for sale, of which 17 (40%) were sold. The highest price recorded for the artist is $2,860 for Pyrmont Washing 1948 sold by GFL Fine Art in November 2005. This year 12 works have been offered for sale. Works by Roderick Shaw are held by the Art Gallery of NSW, Art Gallery of Western Australia and a further two major public national galleries (see list below).
