About Ted Guy Jonsson
Ted Guy Jonsson was born in Sweden in 1935. He spent his childhood travelling Europe and Scandinavia with his parents who were circus artists with their own "Antoni’s Tivoli" show. He was a seaman in Swedish Navy & Merchant Navy and attended the School of Commercial Art, Stockholm. Later he was a chef with Royal Swedish Navy, and a carpenter & teacher for trades schools. He migrated to Australia in 1972, and held his first solo show at the Contemporary Art Centre, Adelaide in 1986. His work is included in the collections of the National Gallery of Australia, Canberra; Mildura Arts Centre, Victoria; University of Adelaide and Riddoch Art Gallery, South Australia. "If the aim of any artist is the creation of a new memorable image, I like to think that my art does that. I create the underlying image in a series of cultivated accidents and clad them with all sorts of time-worn junk. I want the work to bear some mark of physical and psychological struggle. Scars is drama, Time is comedy. He died in Adelaide in 2018. His children, Marie Jonsson-Harrison and Matt Jonsson are both artists.
