Born in Adelaide in 1875, Reg Comley was painting companion to Hans Heysen. He studied under James Ashton at the South Australian School of Art and in Italy and London at the Slade School. Comley painted seascapes, landscapes and architectural subjects in oil and watercolour. He was a member of Adelaide's Easel Club, founded in 1892 as a breakaway from the South Australian Society of Arts and he exhibited there in 1899 and 1900.

The total number of works by Reg Comley offered for sale by auction since 1970 is 24, of which 15 (63%) were sold. The highest price recorded for the artist is $1,183 for Saplings sold by Gregsons in August 1992. No works have been offered for sale this year, and the last sale we have recorded for the artist was in 2023.
