Born in Adelaide in 1875, Joseph Goodhart worked in retail as a draper and painted in his spare time working in oils, watercolours and pastel. At the age of 50 he took up etching, and it as an etcher specialising in mining subjects that he became known. Many of his etchings depict mining life around Broken Hill NSW between the 20s and early 30s. He also sketched extensively in Tasmania, recording historical landmarks including bridges and buildings.

Our database records art auction sales of works by Joseph Goodhart from 1979 and in total 106 works by the artist have been offered for sale, of which 75 (71%) were sold. The highest price recorded for the artist is $1,150 for Australian Native, Arunta Tribe sold by Elder Fine Art in March 2015.
