Born in Melbourne in 1954, Stephen McCarthy studied extensively there and worked in a studio in Amsterdam. He held the first solo show of his paintings in Melbourne in 1982, followed soon after by one in Amsterdam. His work is represented in the National Gallery of Victoria and institutional collections.
