Born in Melbourne on 1 August 1914, Alan Moore studied at the National Gallery Art School in Melbourne and in Sydney under J S Watkins. A teacher of painting at Swinburne College, Moore served as an official war artist during World War II and is known for his images of the Bergen-Belsen concentration camp. After the war he spent some years in Europe and later returned to Melbourne, where he taught painting at Swinburne Technical College from around?1963. He won several provincial awards and his work is represented in the Victorian state gallery. He died on 24 September 2015.
